  • Dear Jimothy,
Yesterday the craziest thing happened to me. I was at the beach, relaxing in the hot sun and laying in the sand. Everything was nice and calm until suddenly I hear loud shouting coming from somewhere further down the beach. At first I didn’t think much of it but then as it got louder I realised it was the sound of a child and his mother fighting. I look over and see that the mother is holding a large sign that says “eight year old boy for sale”. This was of course shocking to see so I got up to ask what was going on and my friend next to me ask if I could buy her a drink since I’m already getting up. So I grabbed 10€ and headed towards the arguing mother and son. The boy was crying and saying “I’m sorry I put a cookie in the DVD player, I won’t do it again, please don’t sell me” but the mom just shouted back “ I never wanted you anyway”. When she saw me approaching she said she was willing to sell him for 15€, I said I wasn’t interested and told her I was pretty sure selling off your children is illegal. she said “ yeah so is taking money out of the cash register at carrefour when the cashier isn’t looking but that’s never stopped anybody before”. I was still contemplating her last sentence when it happened, it was too quick for me to even have time to react; she grabbed the 10€ out of my hand, tossed her sign behind her shoulder, pushed her crying son into my arms and ran away. I stood there confused for a while then decided I couldn’t just leave him there alone. So now he’s sitting in my living room still crying and asking why his parents don’t love him and I have no idea what to do. Do you have any parenting tips?
    Sincerely,
    Bob
